The seriousness of lack of dream
Was talking to three Sec. 4 students today. Was very disturbed by their lack of dream. One wanted to be vet and when upon hearing the requirement, decide to be chef, at the instant moment. One replied depending on the N level.
Dream is suppose to motivate us and to shape our course of actions. I wanted to be a doctor when I was young, all the way till I was in NS and after my failing to enter medical school. That dream energised me to work hard on science and maths. Moved me to choose ACJC when I heard that quite a number of them reached Medical facutly. It was only when God moved my heart to be a teacher that I decided that teaching is my calling.
Even when I applied for teaching, I experienced two rejection. But if I want the dream badly, I would try and try again. I did. I went to do relief teaching and so that it will give MOE more reasons to accept me. Finally I did, on my third try. I thank God.
Dream, calling, goal - whatever you call it, it is important as it motivated me and told me what was the next step.
I wish more of my students will search hard for their dreams.
Thank God for the calling.
