40th anniversary
My church celebrated its 40th anniversary yesterday. As I sat there reflecting on God’s faithfulness for the past 40 years, my attention was directed to the cross in the sanctuary. It was the same cross from the old sanctuary before we demolished and re-built the new building. I could imagine how much challenges my church had weathered for the past 40 years. There were hard times and milestones as well. Hard times like when we had limted rooms and facilities. Milestones like planting church in Sabah, adopting unreached people group, planting churches in Clementi (Aldersgate Methodist Church) and Jurong (Agape Methodist Church), establishing family center in Jurong and recently, outreach blitz at Ghim Moh, Queenstown etc and most recently sending 700 people to short term mission trips.
God has been faithful.
I was further reminded that there is the Cross which God’s Catholic Church. The amount of affliction, challenges and persecution are hard to imagine. Yet, Christ in His grace, preserve and guide His Bride. God is indeed good.
What was heartening was to see the MC was from my first batch of Sunday School students (1988). Today, she is a social worker of our church’s community outreach, FaithAct. I feel so proud. Then on display was some old photos and church magazine. I was reminded I was once a ‘cover boy’ for church’s newsletter. It was a report of our Mission trip to Taiwan back in 1991. Another one was when I was a Sunday School teacher.
I thank God for the chance to serve Him.
