Why DaVinci Code did not bother me
Today's sermon was on DaVinci Code. :O
Look like it is a concern for many and I can understand why. The danger of fiction being treated as non-fiction is dangerous (must be Dan Brown is such convincing story teller). But again, for those not well informed, they may all well treat the fiction with the little non-fiction as gospel true.
I heard of a quote "DeVinci Code is the only book when after reading, the reader got dumber" (disclaimer: not me, an academician). The statement is true if whoever read really believe in it.
I wasn't bother. Why? Cos' I have gone thru a phase in my life when i had to be certain that the Christianity I knew was true. I went thru the phase of reading books that talk about evidences for and against the claim of Jesus Christ and the Church. It was a helpful phase. I asked about the origin of Bible, the reality of prophesy, reliability of Bible (internal and external reliability), the claim of historical Christ etc. It was a time of honest doubt and searching. I came out more sure of my faith.
For thosen who really think the fiction is non-fiction ... don't become dumber. Read other sources. Read the Bible and see if it makes sense. Is it really against woman? Is it the Church made Christ divine or He claimed ot be divine? Would disciples like Peter, James and others die for a lie created by themselves?
May the Truth himslef, Jesus Christ, leads people into the non-fiction reality of the world.
