Christmas eves (part 1)
Christmas eve is always special.
This CE, I spent my time with my family, the most important people in my life. We ordered shepherd pie from NTUC and when I collected it, I was shocked by how mini it is. Hurriedly, I got some sushi from sushi deli. And then straight to home.
After setting up the table, we held hand to pray and thank God for His love. It was a good time to remember the actual reason behind Christmas. I do hope that it will be a family tradition to pray and thank God together on Christmas eve. Han Ern enjoyed the dinner very much. Why? Sushi is his favourite. He called it seaweed rice. He gobbled down 4 out of 9 pieces of sushi.
Then, we bath them quickly so that they can do what they had been waiting for days – open present. We took pic of them with their presents. In the midst of the heap of present, only one for me and one for my wife. The rest were theirs! Then we lighted the candle and sand Christmas carols. The final song was Happy Birthday Song to Jesus. Han Ern prayed a simple thanksgiving and they got into action. Opening their presents. I really enjoyed tonight. Seeing them, my wife included, happy. I got an accordion through ebay since she wanted to have one when we were in Melbourne. She didn’t expect it.
Christmas eve is always special. Somehow, I got into a reflective mood, thinking about my past Christmas eves.
Most quiet Christmas eve
That was in 1994, when I was in Istanbul. I stayed with my friend whose husband was working there. We went to an international church for service. And when we walked on the streets, it was quiet. No one seemed to know or care if it was Christmas. I was reminded of the first Christmas. It happened unnoticed except to those few, shepherds and wise men. I was reminded that many parts of the world do not know who is Christ at all.
Lord, help more to know the Reason of Christmas. Amen
