Daily Verse: James 4:8
"Draw near to God and He will draw near to you."
I am writing this for the third time. Why? I accidentally deleted the first 2 time. I am learning to be patient.
The verse seem straightforward. But it is not so for someone who desperately needs God's presence. Think of Jesus who cried on the cross 'Father, Father, why have you forsaken me?' Or your friend who complained to you that personal devotion is so devoid of God. Who are the people who desperately seek to draw near to God? People who feel His is far.
For spiritual giants, their desire for God's presence, often heard in hymns and songs are of adoration. There is more of enjoyment and less of desperation. They have tasted heaven and want more.
For those who have drifted far, the getting back is at times not instantaneous. We sometime ask 'how long must I wait'. This is understandable for someone who are confronted by guilt, hurt, sickness, pain or self-awakening. But the actual needed question is 'will He be near'. The verse gives a resounding reply of YES. He will be near to those who seek Him. For those of us who wonder, we know He will be near. In the meanwhile, we need to wait patiently and hold on to the faith He has given us.
Dear Lord, gives me faith and longsuffering as I wait upon You. Thank you for the assurance that You will truly draw near. Amen
