To be prosper is a common dream for many people. In the process of acquiring prosperity, ppl may at times forget God. In achieving prosperity, there is also the temptation of moving away from God. John Wesley very often warned against the danger of accumulating wealth on earth.

The verses that precede this verse were spoken to remind the people to obey God and in return, they will recieve His blessings. Similarly, we ought to obey Him and let Him decide how He is gonna reward us. It may not be tangible wealth but a rich soul and generous heart. One thing for sure, He rewards generously and we will not be lacking in the essential.
